FAQ

New Mexico is called "The Land of Enchantment" or in Spanish, "El Tierra del Encanto." It describes New Mexico's scenic beauty and its rich history. This slogan was placed on New Mexico license plates in 1941 and it became the official state nickname on April 8, 1999.
  • New Mexico is one of the youngest American states – admitted to the Union in 1912.
  • New Mexico has more PhDs per capita than any other state.
  • Taos Pueblo has been inhabited for over a thousand years.
  • At a little over 7,000 feet above sea level, Santa Fe is the highest capital city in the United States.
  • Santa Fe was established 10 years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth.
  • You can see five states from the top of Capulin Volcano: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and, of course New Mexico.
  • Sombreros are fun, and so is tango, but you better not dance tango while wearing your sombrero or you'll end up in big trouble because it's illegal!
We want a safe space for dancing and will comply with all federal and New Mexico state protocols. At this time we are not requiring proof of vaccination. We do, however, request that you test negative for COVID prior to joining us at Encanto. Furthermore, we respectfully request that any dancer who feels unwell and who may be contagious, please don't come; your money will be refunded in full.
The number of attendees will be limited to 140.
Sorry, but no. To ensure role-balance and to not exceed venue capacity, no walk-ins will be allowed.
Seating arrangements will be based on role. Leads and follows will be on either side of the floor while couples who prefer to sit together will be seated on either end of the floor. Once you have selected your seat for the evening, it is yours. Please don't take someone else's seat during the evening.
The cost is $200 per person. It includes the 5 milongas during the encuentro. The pre-and-post-Encanto milongas are $15 each. Check out our schedule for more details.
Encuentro Encanto is a private, invitation-only event. If you would like to be invited, please fill out the form on our Subscription page and tell us about your tango experience in the comments section. Your submission will be reviewed. If approved and if there are still open spots based on your role (lead vs follow), we will email you a registration form with payment instructions. Please note that submitting the subscription form does not guarantee admission to the event.

Once you receive the registration form, we recommend that you complete and send it back as soon as you can. Your registration is not finalized until we receive:
  • The completed registration form
  • Full payment
We know things come up and plans have to be changed. You may cancel for any reason before midnight MST on April 30 for a full refund, minus any service fees.

No refunds will be issued after that unless the encuentro has to be canceled for any reason. In which case, everyone will receive a full refund.

Encuentros often fill up, so please send us your cancelation request as soon as possible so we can let in other interested milongueros.
We'll have high-quality Encanto t-shirts for sale. Look fabulous as you proclaim your milonguero creed.
Albuquerque's elevation is 5,312 feet above sea level. Denver's is 5,280 feet. Yep, we are higher than Denver! Why is this important? If you come from sea level, take it slow. We just don't have as much oxygen! Our climate is very dry so bring lotion and drink lots of water.
