Located in an industrial area in downtown Albuquerque, Las Puertas is the ideal location for a true Buenos Aires style milonga. Built as a warehouse circa 1948, the original Las Puertas was repurposed 10 years ago with the now famous doors that were salvaged and reconditioned from junk yards in Rajastan, India.
Las Puertas has hosted over 500 milongas, workshops, marathons, and encuentros. It was much more than a dance place as it became the home for many cultural events for various organizations. It offered Lee Blaugrund, the owner, the opportunity to give back to his community by hosting many fundraising events that raised over $4 million dollars for non-profit arts and social service groups.
For the 2022 Encuentro Encanto, Las Puertas was upgraded with a state-of-the-art sound system, a first-rate dance floor and, its namesake, the doors.
